This week’s episode-long “Fever” homage — like Mercedes’s performance of “I Will Always Love You” that, coincidentally, aired just days after the death of Whitney Houston — comes at a timely moment. With Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees in the headlines after falling into a coma, the “Glee” kids unintentionally chose a significant week to sing-and-boogie the praises of the disco era soundtrack dominated by Robin and his brothers, Maurice and Barry. (Next week’s full-on Whitney Houston tribute will only continue that tradition, this time intentionally.)
So what was the frayed shoestring of a narrative that tied together all those “Saturday Night Fever” numbers?

The episode will also feature "Night Fever" with Matthew Morrison, Criss and Kevin McHale; "Disco Inferno" with Amber Riley; "If I Can't Have You" with Naya Rivera; "More Than a Woman" with Cory Monteith; "Stayin' Alive" with Monteith, Rivera and Riley; and "Boogie Shoes" with members of Vocal Adrenaline.

Now in its third season, GLEE is a musical comedy about a group of eager and ambitious students who strive to outshine their singing competition to win Nationals while navigating the cruel halls of McKinley High. Glee Does Disco with “Saturday Night Fever”

Though the high schoolers aren’t too interested in the genre, the 1977 movie soundtrack does have a “few” fans. It’s sold over 40 million copies since its initial release according to the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). It also won Album of the Year at the 1978 Grammy Awards and spent 24 weeks at number one on the Billboard charts from January to July 1978. The disco collection even held the title of top selling soundtrack of all time until it was surpassed by Whitney Houston’s “The Bodyguard” soundtrack in 1999.
This is the second time the show’s done a whole episode dedicated to one album. Last season, they performed songs from Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumors,” also released in 1977.
